Drugyel Dzong.

1)             Visit the Drugyel Dzong on the way, view the Mt. Jhomolhari (Alt 7320mt) which is the only mountain covered with snow throughout the year & Kichu Lhakhang on the way.

2)            Visit National Museum at Paro (Ta Dzong) visit/ hike to Taktsang Monastery or tigers nest, it is so called because Guru Padmasambhava landed here on the back of a tiger when he came to Bhutan to mediate. 

3)            Simtokha Dzong (the first dzong- Fortress) 

4)            National Library & School) of arts & crafts (former painting) school- 2-4 pm) Zangthopelri lakhang handicrafts emporium & tashichodzong (main secretariat which houses the national assembly the throne room & various ministries. Sprawling complex is the hub of administrative activity in Bhutan. 

5)             View of the Thimpu valley from BBS Tower, Mini Zoo (National animal takin is seen) Anin. Dratshang (Nunnery) National Library & Paper factory, Memorial chorten. 

                Sightseeing at Dochula Pass at an alt of 3150 m which commands the entire Bhutan Himalayas on a clear day. During spring the whole   area come out with the rioting colour of rhododendron .

The land of the dragon & Thimphu as its capital, Bhutan is an independent kingdom. It has been able to retain its traditional way of life, religious, culture & dresses.  

To enter Bhutan by road one has to reach the Indian Border town of Jaigaon, which is 150 Km from Siliguri. Just a minute walk is the Gate through which you enter Phuntsoling (Bhutan)

Permits are not required if  you are carrying an Indian Passport, no Visa is required. The passport needs to be shown at Bhutanese Checkpost at Kharbandi. For foreigners can apply for Visa in groups of six atleast in two months advance. By air there are direct flights from Calcutta & Delhi to Paro in Bhutan.

Location : In the eastern Himalayas, is border by China in the North & the Indian States of Arunachal Pradesh, SKM Assam & West Bengal in the East, West & South . 

Currency : Ngultrum, the currency of Bhutan, has the same value as the Indian-Rupee. 

Economy: Agriculture & Livestock raising are the main stay of the Economy. 

Food: Staple diet is red rice, buckwheat, wheat, maize, pork, Beef, Chicken, Yak meat, cheese & chilies  which are taken as vegetables & not as spice . 

People : Bhutanese are friendly & Hospitable people. The Large majority of Bhutanese people are a homogeneous group divided linguistically into three broad sub-groups. These are sharcops ngalong & lhot shampa . 

Dress : Men wears Gho, which are longish robes tied around the waist by a cloth belt, known as Kera. Women’s ankle- length dress is known as Kera, which is made of bright coloured fine women fabric with traditional patterns. 

SPORTS : The national sport is archery others traditional sports include digo a kind of shot-put, darts & wrestling. Today most international sports, such as soccer, basketball volleyball, tennis & table tennis  are becoming popular . 

ARTS & CRAFTS

Bhutan is known for handicrafts items in bronze, silver & other metals 

Architecture: The Castle like dzong with their gently tapering walls, classic lines, large courtyards, & beautiful galleries are among the finest examples of Bhutanese architecture Dzong are also the administrative centres of their districts. But the most common architectural slight in Bhutan are the chortens or stupas which are small shrines built to house sacred relics .
